Thicker tatami matting for home training

Create a cushioned home training area with Cannons UK 40mm Basic Tatami jigsaw mats. Each EVA foam mat measures 1m × 1m × 40mm and covers approximately 1m² before cutting. The tatami-style textured finish is reversible, with red on one side and green on the other.

Interlocking jigsaw edges let you build a larger floor, while the included border strips finish exposed edges. Choose one colour throughout or alternate red and green to mark a practice area.

Is the Basic mat right for your space?

The stated density is 90–100kg/m³ and hardness is Shore C 35. This Basic specification is intended for domestic use, including home martial arts practice, floor exercises and general fitness. The 40mm thickness offers a deeper foam layer, but thickness alone does not make a mat suitable for repeated throws or high-impact landings. For a regularly used club, school or commercial dojo, or for throwing practice, contact us about a suitable Premium mat and subfloor.

Choose the quantity that fits your room. Bulk discounts are shown on this page, from £26.65 per mat including VAT when you buy 100 or more. Measure your floor and allow extra for cuts around walls, pillars and recesses. Use the calculator below or send us your dimensions for help.

If you are extending an existing floor, contact us with details or a photo of your mats so we can check the jigsaw profile before you order.

4. Are they suitable for a commercial dojo?
These Basic mats are intended for domestic use. For regular club, school or commercial use, ask us about the Premium range.

5. Are 40mm Basic mats suitable for judo throws?
Thickness alone does not establish suitability for repeated throws or high-impact landings. Contact us about an appropriate Premium mat and subfloor for your discipline.

6. Do border strips come with the mats?
Yes, they are included to finish exposed edges.

7. What surface should I lay them on?
Use a clean, flat and dry floor. Check the assembled area for movement before training.

8. Can I extend a floor bought previously?
Send us details or a photo of the existing mats so we can check the interlocking profile before you order.

9. How do I clean them?

Yes. The current price breaks are displayed on this page, from £26.65 per mat including VAT when you buy 100 or more.

Wipe the mats with a damp cloth and mild soap when needed. New mats may have some residual release agent from manufacturing; if the surface feels slippery, clean with mild soap or diluted sugar soap, remove the residue with a clean damp cloth and allow them to dry fully before use.

Avoid harsh solvents, abrasive cleaners and soaking the foam. Check the joins and floor stability before training. Store flat in a clean, dry place when not in use.
